Week 5
Model making
Here is our now more finalised puppet. His body has been padded out with hollow fibre to give him more shape and detail. It has also been wrapped around his joints to fill them out more and make him look more seamless between his bones and his joints.
He has then also had his head glued into place, which is removable thanks to the use of K&S. He's then had his feet put on using milliput, which while it was still soft had pins pushed through so that he can be used for pin down. |
The next step was to cover his legs and arms using foam so that he is ready to have some clothes put on as well as covering his feet with memory foam which was sculpted so that it resembled more of a shoe shape.
The excess foam was cut off from underneath and then we were left with a beautiful shoe that you are able to pull up off of the foot and push the pins into when animating. So here he is below ready for those final finishing touches. |
The Head
Our puppet is very close to being finished. One of the last things needed is his head. So using a base shape made out of scrim foam, it is stuck onto our earlier removable heads with glue, minding the K&S. Once we are happy with the shape the whole head is then covered with scrim foam to give a smoother appearance and then the fun bit can begin!
Facial features can then be added to the puppet, including the nose, the ears, the eyebrows and the hair. The eyeballs are glued into place and then tada! Our head is complete.

Team Puppet Making
The Last Step
The final stage was to give our puppets some clothes! So a night or so was spent sitting and sewing our puppets some fancy new clothing. Once we completed that then we were ready to dive in and start some test animation.
